Is our attention span really shrinking?

For years, we’ve been told that our attention spans are getting shorter. But apparently, there’s no solid evidence that proves that.

What is changing is our environment.

We have been (and are being) conditioned by social media and short-form content like reels and shorts to crave constant novelty and fast rewards. So, our brains have gotten used to those quick dopamine hits. That makes sustained focus on activities like reading, problem-solving, or watching a 30-minute training video feel harder than ever.

We haven’t actually lost the capacity to focus. We're just:

  • Less used to it

  • More easily distracted

  • More prone to multitasking

So, the challenge isn’t that we can’t pay attention for long. It’s that we need to retrain ourselves to do it.
